Extortion is the most cruel form of corruption. The rapid and unabated rise in extortion is one of the greatest threats facing Jamaica today. Persons are being extorted in all sectors of our society from the single hairdresser and taxi drivers, to large multi-million dollar companies. Extortion comes mainly in the form of demands, protection schemes and blackmails. It has led to countless murders, the closure of businesses and it is having a major negative impact on the functioning of our society. There is great fear spreading from the actions of the extortionist because of their willingness to hurt others and destroy properties. A JAP government will put measures in place to identify and punish all those who are involved in this evil practice.
