MEDIA
Over the last few decades, the role of the media in society has changed greatly. With the advent of the Internet and Social Media, the way information is circulated have changed drastically. Individuals now have the means to reach millions of people with whatever forms of information that they wish to convey. It is often difficult to check the truth of these reports or the source from whom it came. Fake news has now become a real problem throughout the world. Information from the traditional media can more be relied on to be truthful and accurate and where this is not so there are persons and organizations that can be held accountable. It is often necessary to cross check information obtained from social media with that from the traditional media so as to verify its truthfulness. JAP will ensure the continued independence of the traditional media and its freedom from interference as they continue to serve the public. The role of the media, both traditional and social media, is critical and cannot be over emphasised as it relates to the intention of JAP to educate the population and get important information to the people so that they can make informed decisions to better their lives and that of their children. The expansion of the internet has greatly raise the number of persons who now have access to these information. JAP will be working very closely with the media houses to design programmes to get information out and educate the public on relevant issues and keep them informed on the work of the government. We will also establish a large presence on social media such as facebook and twitter in order to reach those persons, especially the younger generation, who get most of their information via this means. At the same time this will also serve as a channel to feedback information and concerns to the government.
