These include&nbsp;rodent infestation, outbreak of diseases, garbage being dumped into&nbsp;our gullies and waterway, unsightly garbage piles plus fires and&nbsp;conflicts as persons attempt to burn their garbage. The first step that&nbsp;is needed is for householders and businesses to separate their&nbsp;garbage into plastic, paper and cardboard, tins and kitchen waste. These should be taken to separate disposal site where the renewable&nbsp;portions are recycled. &nbsp;This would prevent much of the garbage from&nbsp;ending up in the dump and instead be converted into useful&nbsp;products. With the great increase in the use of computers and other&nbsp;electronic equipment, it is also important that these disused&nbsp;equipment &nbsp;are properly disposed of.&nbsp;The disposal of chemicals, batteries, tyres and used fluids from motor&nbsp;vehicles &nbsp;are of major concern. At present there is no clear policy for&nbsp;the disposal of these waste. Expired chemicals from agricultural&nbsp;sources, and industries often end up in the soil or at our dump&nbsp;instead of being properly neutralized into safe compounds before&nbsp;being disposed of. Used engine oil, transmission fluids, power&nbsp;steering fluid, brake fluid and coolant are often disposed of by&nbsp;garages and private individuals in an unsafe manner. There are no&nbsp;prescribe method or monitoring for the disposal of these fluids which&nbsp;do great damage when they get into the soil and underground water&nbsp;source. Motor vehicle batteries and the many dry cell and alkaline batteries used&nbsp;in electronic equipment such as cell phone, laptops computers,&nbsp;remote controllers and games consoles also need to be properly disposed of.&nbsp;Old appliances, furniture, motor vehicles and construction waste also&nbsp;pose a big problem as in many cases they are simple dumped in&nbsp;unused lot and left to rot. Strict monitoring as well as adequate&nbsp;penalties for the improper disposal of garbage must be put in place.&nbsp;Many of the flooding which the country experience are directly due to&nbsp;improperly disposed garbage which ends up blocking our drains and&nbsp;gullies. JAP will put in place measures and new laws to ensure the&nbsp;timely collection and proper disposal of garbage as well as the necessary&nbsp; &nbsp;penalties where breaches occur.
