Too often there is a push toward it when the cost of fuel&nbsp;goes up but goes away once the price has&nbsp;dropped. Cheaper and&nbsp;more sustainable forms of energy must be pursued regardless of&nbsp; &nbsp;the cost of oil. The push to replace older generating units&nbsp; with&nbsp;newer ones which are more efficient and uses cheaper and cleaner&nbsp;fuel will be continued. The use of solar energy for heating and the&nbsp;generation of electrical energy will be encouraged. As such, a JAP&nbsp;government will look at the duties which are being charged with a&nbsp;view to lower them where possible. The &nbsp;expansion of generation of&nbsp;electricity by wind turbines for the national grid will be pursued.&nbsp;Hydro-electricity will also be looked at to see how it&#8217;s use can be&nbsp;expanded. The high &nbsp;cost of energy is one of the major issue&nbsp;facing manufacturers and greatly affect their competitiveness both&nbsp;locally and overseas.&nbsp;The revival of the rail service in the long term must be a part of the&nbsp;plan for the transportation of passengers and freight.&nbsp;Transportation by rails is much more cost effective and uses less&nbsp;fuel than when done by road. It also prevents the clutter of traffic&nbsp;and wear and tear of our roads. A JAP government will start&nbsp;looking at rail corridors and start reserving lands for this expansion.&nbsp;Conservation must play a great part in the energy policy of any&nbsp;country. There will be an ongoing extensive education of the public&nbsp;on ways in which energy can be conserved in our homes and businesses with a view of reducing the energy demands of the&nbsp; country. Simple things like cleaning filters or making sure that door&nbsp;seals are working properly can see significant savings in the&nbsp;amount of energy consumed.<br>Increasing the efficiency of equipment and appliances will help to&nbsp;cut the country&#8217;s demand for energy. Jamaica electrical grid&nbsp;operates on a 50Hz cycle but most of the equipment and&nbsp;appliances entering the country are from the USA and are&nbsp;designed to operate on a 60Hz cycle. This leads to them wasting&nbsp;vast amount of energy as heat and the shortening of their life. A&nbsp;study will be done to see how this problem can be best addressed.&nbsp;The demand for motor vehicles is driven up by the poor public&nbsp;transportation system existing throughout the country. Most of our&nbsp;towns are now clogged daily with motor vehicles as the road&nbsp;infrastructure was never designed for such a large volume of&nbsp;traffic.
