The centralized activities of the National Works Agency (NWA) have not served us well. The previous practice of having work crews and equipment in the various towns and having the work done by employees was much better than the present practice of using contractors to do the work. JAP will seek to decentralize the operations of the NWA. While the NWA has undertaken&nbsp; projects to improve Jamaica&#8217;s roads, bridges, and drainage systems, its performance has not being satisfactory in terms of completion date, quality of work done, cost overruns and prolonged inconvenience for the public.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The quality of work done by its contractors has led to complaints regarding the quality of construction and maintenance work.&nbsp; The lack of maintenance of our infrastructure has led to rapid deterioration, undermining the long-term value of the investments made. The extremely poor state of our roads and their continued deterioration is directly the result of the failure of the NWA to maintain them. THe same applies to many other infrastructure for which they are responsible. Its level of communication with the public is almost nonexistent and the avenues which it announces to reach them never works. Letters, emails and phone calls are rarely ever answered or responded to.<br>JAP will look at implementing measures to manage and improve traffic flow, including timely maintenance road signage, signal systems, and road safety initiatives. We will ensure the building and upkeep of roadways to ensure they are safe and efficient for public use. We will plan and implement projects aimed at improving transportation infrastructure and connectivity across Jamaica. Drain cleaning and maintenance will be ongoing so as to minimize damage due to flooding during weather events. Communicating with the public about ongoing projects, road conditions, and any disruptions that may affect travel is essential. It is also necessary to open channels for the public to communicate with the NWA to inform them of dangers, repairs needed and maintenance to our roads and infrastructures.
