HEALTH
The health of the nation citizens is of utmost importance. At present the availability of quality health care is lacking
in our health centres and hospitals. This has resulted in the deaths of many patients and untold suffering to
others. Instead of fixing this both the PNP and THE JLP are more interested in scoring points, arguing about free
health care and the short comings of the other party while in government. The main interest of JAP will be to
ensure that quality health care is available to all. The root of the problem is that the health services are over
burden by patients seeking assistance and under funding. It is desperately short of supplies and personnel as
the budgetary allocation to the health sector is not sufficient. The best way to provide more funding for the health
sector is to make those patients who can afford to pay a fee do so, while putting in measures to ensure that those
who are not able to will get the treatment that they need. It's no use having free health care when the level of
health care falls way below the minimum standard. In addition patients have to spend countless hour waiting and
get numerous new appointments. For many patients needing specialized treatment to save their lives, their
appointments are as far away as two years which almost ensure that they will be dead by then. Other patients
spend months in the hospital at great cost as they are unable to buy supplies such as pins which are needed for
surgery to fix broken bones.
A large number of the patients that are seen at our medical facilities are patients suffering from life style disease
such as obiesty related illnesses, accident victims and victims of violence. It is important that the number of these
patients be reduce to the bare minimum as they use up a considerable amount of the alloted resources and
deprived other patients of care. Many persons suffering from lifestyle diseases can see great improvement in their
health simply by changing their lifestyle. Many can be weaned off medication simply by a change in their diet
and/or doing excercise. An ongoing programme encouraging a healthy lifestyle will be done by a JAP government.
The treatment of one just one motor vehicle accident or stabbing victim can run into millions of dollars. Accident
victims and victims of violence, receive piority attention which often result in long wait for other patients and the
cancellation and rescheduling of elective sergery even after some patients had been prep and made ready for the
operation. If the number of these patients in need of emergency care can be greatly reduced with the promotion of
a healthy life style among our citizens and a major reduction in the number of emergency patients, these resources
could be redirected to the care of our patients needing elective sergery, both medical and cosmetic. One of the
main thrust of JAP will be to take steps which will result in a high quality of health care for all those in need. The
reintroduction of user fees for some users will be considered along with steps so as to ensure that no patient is
denied care due to their inability to pay these fees. A fund will also be set up to pay for patients needs such as
pins for broken bones so as to prevent them being admitted for extended period of time due to their inability to
purchase THINGS necessary for their operation or procedure which sometimes result in their death. The care of
one accident patient with a broken leg which need pinning and who need physiotherpy care can last for an
extended period of time and run into millions of dollars. The cost of caring for the numerous victims of motor
vehicle accidents and victims of violence runs into billions of dollars each year. With the reduction in these
spendings, more funds will be available for the maintainance and purchase of important equipment and furniture,
the purchase of medicine, linen and care of the wards, and the upgrade and maintainance ot the plant (buildings,
vehicles etc). JAP will also ensure that facilitities are establish to treat the many ilnesses for which the expertise but
not the facilityies are available. These include the treatment of heart, kidney and eye diseases. This lack of
facilities have forced many person to seek treatment overseas or simply to die.
