Justice

For justice to be served the offender must be punished and the victim, where possible must be restored to the
position that he or she would have been if the offence had not occured. Also, the punishment given must fit the
crime or in other words it must be fair. This is the root of all justice system and this is the purpose that it must serve
in a quick and timely manner. There are two aspect of our justice system namely the criminal justice system which
deals with criminal offences and the civil justice system which deal with civil cases. Sadly both of these are in a very
poor state and is beset by the problem of lack of resources and a backlog of cases dating back many years. JAP
thinks that is ever we are to fix the problems facing jamaica, the justice system is one of two corner stones which
must be fix, the other being security. JAP will ensure that the justice portfolio will be given the necessary resources
to clear the backlog of cases and at the same time keep new cases current so that justice can be served in a timely
manner. The long delay in cases often results in witnesses forgetting some details, the death of witnesses,
witnesses relocating or migrating and others losing interest in the case. There is also greater chances for the
intimidation of witnesses and in some cases their elimination. When the case is finally mention, there are often
countless delays leading to frustration on the part of the witnesses and complainant and other concern persons.
This has led to many persons suffering in slience or  bypassing the justice system and taking the law into their own
hand and thus begin the cycle of reprisal. With justice being deliver in a quick and fair manner, persons will be less
likely to offend.A major part for the control of crime will be to make the civil courts easily accessible to all persons.
Person will be able to seek redress in the civil courts so an offender will not only have to worry about paying a fine
and or serve time, but they will also have to think of losing their property and savings.
